Performance Experience

Corey has significant experience in collaborative music as a pianist and vocalist. He has worked with singers and instrumentalists, and performed chamber repertoire, winning first place in the National Chamber Music Class in 2013 with Gustav Mahler’s Piano Quartet in A minor.

For three summers, Corey travelled to Italy to represent Canada in the International Casalmaggiore Festival, a festival for piano, strings, and voice. He also sang with the prestigious Brandon University Chorale in tours through Estonia and Latvia, the "Singing Baltic Countries" in Europe. Videos are posted here!

Education & Qualifications

Corey began playing piano in 1998 at the age of 8. He first took lessons with a teacher near his home town of Lowe Farm, MB and once he reached a Grade 5 level through Royal Conservatory of Music, he transferred over to renowned pianist and teacher Loren Hiebert from Altona, MB. By 2008, he was playing at a Grade 10 level.

Corey attended Brandon University (2010-2014), where he studied with Megumi Masaki. He completed his Grade 10 Practical Examination in his first year and was working towards his A.R.C.T Diploma during his second year when he suffered a repetitive stress injury. For the next three years, Corey systematically re-learned how to approach playing the piano in ways that were natural for his body. He is passionate about sharing these techniques with his students and colleagues, and watches his students diligently for signs of stress or tension while playing piano.

During his third year of university, Corey tutored first and second year students in classes like theory and aural skills (ear training). He was also involved in annual “Masaki’s Rising Stars” tours, where he and colleagues would travel all over Manitoba and provide free lessons to local students and perform in local venues. Corey maintained a 4.0 GPA, graduating with the Brandon University Silver Medal for the highest GPA in his program.

Corey is a Registered Music Teacher (R.M.T.) through the Manitoba Registered Music Teachers’ Association (MRMTA), an organization committed to ensuring the highest caliber of music education possible and promoting high standards of music in each community.

Volunteer Experience

From 2013-2018, Corey volunteered with the charitable organization, Artists in Healthcare, MB, where he helped raise over $32,000 through fundraising events and community/city grants. With this funding, he created the largest rural branch of their organization, and over the years over 1,000 live music concerts were performed for residents in care homes in Brandon and Souris; free-of-charge.

Corey still sings and plays in care homes regularly as a form of community outreach and has learned hundreds of pieces spanning the 1900-1960s. You can book Corey for weddings, funerals, events and local care homes by clicking here!
